Qualifications of Bouza & Associates Inc.

Bouza & Associates Inc. consists of a team of individual consultants who offer the benefits of over sixty years combined experience in resource development and non-profit management. Associates are called on as needed for research, interview and analytical purposes. Associates are engaged for each individual contract based on the requirements of the client. A carefully cultivated group of qualified professionals in organizational development, public relations, marketing, event planning, corporate sponsorship, and campaign management are available to complete the B&A team.  

John M. Bouza, CFRE
President


John Bouza, President, has more than twenty years experience in fundraising, marketing, and communications. He was the first person in Ottawa to earn the Certified Fund Raising Executive designation from Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP).

Mr. Bouza's greatest strength is conceiving creative fundraising solutions in today's challenging climate for resource development. His commitment to the profession was recognized by his peers in 1998 when he was awarded the Outstanding Fundraising Executive Award by AFP Ottawa Chapter.

Mr. Bouza has worked for and/or advised a wide range of non-profit institutions designing effective, unique resource development initiatives.

Gordon H. Durnan, CFRE, FAHP
Senior Associate


Gordon Durnan is a proven development professional with an outstanding record of achievement.  He has led a distinguished, award winning 35-year career in health care philanthropy and charity management.  In 1983 he was awarded the professional designation Certified Fundraising Professional.  In 1987 Mr. Durnan was awarded the status of Fellow by the Association for Health Care Philanthropy (AHP); the first Canadian to achieve this level of recognition.  He was named Outstanding Fundraising Executive in 1996 by the Toronto Chapter of the  Association of Fundraising Professionals and in 1998 was named the  North America-wide winner of AHP's Si Seymour Award for bringing honour and prominence to the fundraising profession.

A strong proponent of professional development and volunteer education, Mr. Durnan has been a featured lecturer at more than 50 international, national and regional conferences and seminars.

Mr. Durnan has worked on several successful capital campaigns.  He brings to CanFund projects extensive hands-on experience in campaign management as well as skills in the growth and development of non-profit organizations.

Chloe Hillier

Program Coordinator


Chloe Hillier has several years experience in adminsitration, communications, event management and graphic design. She brings with her a strong commitment to the CanFund mission of helping charities fulfill their visions and improve society.

Having completed an Honours B.A. in History from Concordia University, Ms. Hillier is adept at researching and analysing complex data and information.

Prior to joining CanFund, Ms. Hillier spent several years working in the nonprofit sector where she gained first hand knowledge and experience of the unique challenges faced by nonprofits. She now uses these  insights to develop innovative solutions to common fund development issues.

Myles Frosst
Associate

Over two decades Myles Frosst has assisted government departments, industry associations, NGOs, individual companies and research institutes build working relationships with one another in pursuit of common strategic goals. Myles graduated with a degree in economics from McGill University and continues life long learning in public policy and administration.


In his words, “to launch rockets toward shared objectives, fuel is paramount.  More often than not that fuel is available only from the implementation of a sound fund development strategy.”  To that end, Myles has exercised his passion for
identifying the intersection of the specific needs and capabilities of diverse funders/sponsors and other stakeholders in a fundraising project, building a strategy that maximizes the contribution that each partner can make to the project, finding realistic performance measurements required to fine-tune the strategy's implementation over time, and conveying the merits of the project to a broad range of audiences. 

Strategic or operational plans; facilitation of goal setting; consultation and engagement; knowledge of potential partners; achievement and communications of results:  these are some of the strengths that Myles brings to the clients of Bouza & Associates.

Doris M. Smith, CFRE
(retired)
Associate

Ms. Smith is the co-author, with John Bouza, of The Canadian Glossary of Fundraising Terms.  She has also written various articles published in fundraising magazines and prepared the research (as well as being one of three presenters) for a seminar on Women as Donors at the1996 NSFRE Congress in Toronto. 

Her professional experience included managing three capital campaigns -- Rideau Chapel Restoration campaign (for the Friends of the National Gallery of Canada), Villa Marconi Long Term Care Centre campaign, and "Building Young Lives" capital campaign for the Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa-Carleton.
